Our History

The Civil Society Urban Development Platform (CSUDP) is a national Non-Governmental Organizations, a platform for urban Civil Society Organizations  (CSO's) in Kenya working to promote sustainable urban development.

CSUDP is a successor organization of the Civil Society Urban Development Programme established in the year 2009 as a facility for coordination and continued support of CSO's active in the urban sector in Kenya. The programme phase 2010 - 2015  was supported by the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida) through the Swedish Embassy in Nairobi. In the year 2013, the process of transforming CSUDP to a fully-fledged organization began. CSUDP was registered by the NGO Board in July 2015.

The transition to a fully-fledged organization is a reflection of our journey and our growth.

When the Civil Society Urban Development Programme was set up in the year 2009 it was in response to a recognized need for increased coordination of Civil Society actors in the urban sector as well as leveraging of best practices to inform urban policy and the design of pro-poor urban interventions. Six (6) years on, the need to ensure that civil society speak in one voice and that policy and practice is knowledge based is even greater. Now with devolution, county administrative headquarters are rapidly acquiring new urban status and attracting new residency with high expectations for better social and economic status.

We shall  continue to build on our past experiences and results bringing our specialist expertise to government (both national and county) as well as to the market as we pull together towards the realization of Vibrant, dignified and secure urban living environments.
